Before he had time to act, Brandon was on the floor. His jaw hurt him terribly, and as he reached up to rub it, he felt wetness against his hand. He brought his hand down, and stared at it for a second before he realized it was blood.
Suddenly, he was angry. Who does he think he is? Barging in like this? Thought Brandon. With a push, Brandon was suddenly upright, ignoring Melody, ignoring Saiya, only having eyes for Ben. He missed the few murmured words, ignoring all else around him.
In a rage, Brandon stalked over to Ben, put a hand on his shoulder, and socked him in the gut for all he was worth. Before Ben could double over in pain, Brandon caught him with and uppercut, sending Ben flying backward.
Brandon stood there, breathing heavy, waiting for his next opportunity.

Saiya had had enough at this point, her eyes were livid. She didn't like this Brandon guy at all, and at the same time she thought Ben was being an ass trying to start a fight like that. She ignored Ben for the time being, then stepped between the two guys before any of them could take another punch at each other. You could just tell by looking in her eyes that she was now extremely pissed off. She knew that she wasn't physically strong enough to restrain Brandon or Ben from each other, but right now, she didn't care.
"You know what! You hit him again and there WILL be trouble!" Saiya snarled toward Brandon, then turned to face Ben on the floor. "And don't get hopeful, I'm not on your side either!" She figured she should stop there, but no, they had really pissed her off, they were going to see the evil side of Saiy now... "You're both being extremely childish! I would suggest the both of you stop this right now! I've half a mind to go report this to a mall officer!" Saiya snapped.
She was done yelling at them now. But at this moment, Saiya wasn't about move from her spot between the two boys. She stood up at her fullest height of six feet flat, seeming to radiate anger just from her eyes alone. She balled up her fists and bit down on her tongue.

Ben felt blood well up where Brandon had hit him, and felt the back of his head hit the hard concrete floor. Ben picked himself up quickly, his fists clenched, ready for another go. But, to his supreme surprise, Saiya made her way to stand between them, and she seemed quite determined. You know what! You hit him again and there WILL be trouble! she said, and Ben felt smug. But then she turned on him, too. "And don't get hopeful, I'm not on your side either!" she told him, and Ben felt himself go shamefaced. She continued her rant as she stood between the two of them, and Ben studied his shoes carefully. God, I really screwed up this time. he thought. He rubbed the back of his neck and finally looked up, facing Brandon full in the face. "Look, man, I'm sorry. I'll lay off, okay? Let's just forget this happened."
Then he turned to Saiya. The truth that he wanted to keep from her--and himself-- was that he really liked her. But it looked like he'd gone and screwed that up for himself too. "You're right, Saiya. I'm sorry. I better go." And Ben turned around to leave.

Saiya stood there a moment, fuming. What happened next was something she could hardly belive. They listened to her. Actually listened to her. Well, at least Ben did anyway. He'd apologized to Ben, saying he'd lay off. there was no way this way happening, any second now they'd turn around and start punching each other again... Nobody ever listened to her, that was just physically impossible. Ben actually had said she was right about something...
Ben turned to leave, but Saiya left with him, not looking back at Brandon. She was still angry, but she had calmed down somewhat. She fell into pace with him, he looked a real mess, bleeding and was probably severely bruised. Perhaps she ought to offer to take him back to her car, clean him up a bit, she still had the un-opened first-aid kit in the glove compartment that the used-car sales place threw in for free... Probably because the car itself was a piece of crap...
"Ben, follow me, let's get you cleaned up." said Saiya, hint of anger still in her voice.

Ben looked at Saiya in surprise as she followed him toward the exit of the mall. Wait a second... hadn't she just told him what a total jerk he was? Girls could be so confusing... but deep down, he was truly elated. He tried to hide his smile as she offered to help him clean bloof off his face. He just nodded nonchalantly and followed her.
The silence was beginning to get awkward. He searched to find something to talk about, but the only thing that ran through his head was the fight. "Thanks for what you did back there. Stopping us, I mean. That could have gotten really bad... well, worse, anyway. And I'm sorry. For acting like a jerk back there. I shouldn't have, like... put you in that kind of a situation?" Boy, was he bad at this stuff.

Saiya breathed deeped through her nose, sure, she still thought Ben was completely stupid, but she couldn't help those feelings she had for him... Sometimes she even confused herself. They walked out of the mall together, into the bright sunlight. Saiya felt momentarily blinded, but eventually she could see better. She could easily spot her piece of junk among all the nice, well-taken-care-of cars. She pulled her keys from her pocket then stopped beside her car, listening as Ben spoke.
"Okay, we're agreed, you acted like an ass." said Saiya as she unlocked her car. She grabbed all the crap on the front seats of the old Taurus, then threw it in the even more cluttered back seats. "Alright, get in." said Saiya, scooting over into the driver's seat.

Ben slid into the car beside Saiya. Sure, it wasn't a Porsch, but it was better than having no car at all, like him. Ben felt the tiniest bit claustrophobic in the small car, so close to pretty Saiya, but he managed to keep himself under control. "I hate hydrogen poroxide. It stings," he said, trying to break the last small amount of tension between them. It was the perfect temperature in the car, not too hot and not too cold, but Ben was flushing and he could hardly breathe.
He gazed at Saiya as she bent over the first aid kit, biting his lip, telling himself not to do anything.

Saiya heard the door shut behind him, it made an awkward sort of noise, as if the door were going to fall off if it were touched again. Saiya was used to it, every since a month ago, when her car broke down in the middle of a four-way intersection and another car slammed right into her. It had been scary and made yet another dent in the car. "I hate hydrogen poroxide. It stings," Ben had said. Saiya rolled her eyes. She opened a bottle of it with her teeth, then wet a gauze pad with some and squeezed the excess into the bottle.
"You might hate the stuff but you would hate an infected wound even more." Saiya said shortly. "Now hold still." She gently applied the pad of gauze to a wound on Ben's face, putting a little bit of pressure, but not a whole lot.

Ben winced a little bit as Saiya pressed the gauzed filled with hydrogen poroxide to his face where Brandon had punched him. God, was that the stupidest thing I've ever done or what? he thought as Saiya pressed against his cheek. It was so weird, Saiya being so close, and still, their skin didn't touch. But there was an inmistakeable spark between the two of them. Whether it was just friendship or something more, Ben wasn't sure, and didn't know if he'd EVER be sure. He could make a move at any moment, but he didn't want to offend her. She probably didn't even like him anyway. Most girls didn't. And she was so pretty, she probably had a boyfriend.
Ben decided to bring it up. "So, Saiya... do you by any chance... i dunno... have a boyfriend?" he asked awkwardly.

Saiya removed the gauze pad, then pulled out a fresh one and place it over the wound, securing it with a few strips of medical tape. She placed the roll back in the kit, leaving it open upon her lap. The plastic felt cold on the exposed skin through her torn black skinny jeans, her dark red DC shirt was tight around her chest, but rather loose everywhere else. She gently took the hand that Ben had used to punch Brandon to make sure he hadn't bruised his knuckles. A slight tinge of blush rose to her cheeks as she did so.
"So, Saiya... do you by any chance... I dunno... have a boyfriend?" Ben asked as she patched him up. She was thrown-off by this question, she looked him in the eyes, smiling. This was huge, Saiya had only smile about four other times (that she could remember) her whole life. She blushed even more, her cheeks now a deep pink. "That depends, if you have a girlfriend." Saiya said, still having Ben's hand in hers.

Ben's heart started to beat fast as she took his hand. She asked him his question in return, and he noticed he had made her smile. This made him in turn infinitely happy, and he smiled in return. He squeezed her hand lightly in his and held her gaze, still, grinning. "No. But I kinda wish it was you," he confessed, suddenly embarassed, and looked down at his torn up jeans and old red converse. Still, no matter what he had said, he meant it, and she needed to know how he felt. He ventured a gaze back up to her face to see her reaction, see if he would accept him or... well, kick him out of the car.

Saiya felt terribly awkward, still holding Ben's hand although it didn't look too beat up. She knew what she had said was terribly cheesy, but her grin didn't fade, but of course, her teeth weren't showing. If it were possible, her cheeks turned an even darker shade of pink. It was six times more noticeable than if someone of your average California-composure had blushed as heavily as she was at the moment, seeing as she was so pale.
"I kind of wish that too." Saiya said very softly. There was no way this was happening, any second she would wake up and be in her very dark bedroom, or she would snap out of it and see Ben and Brandon beating each other up, and she would've never left the mall... But now, she was deathly scared of rejection, although Ben had just admitted he liked her...

Ben couldn't beleive this was happening. They were still holding each other's hands, gazing at each other, and now Ben knew Saiya liked him too, and he flushed almost as deeply as she did. Since she was quite obviously too shocked to do anything about it... Ben leaned over and kissed her. It was soft, short, and sweet, but it felt so good he could hardly stand it.
"Well, uh..." he said awkwardly. "Maybe we should go out sometime." What a lame folllow-up! Ben was scared now that she'd say he was a fakey sap and leave him right then and there.

Saiya gazed deep into his bright blue eyes. She wanted to swoon right that second, this just wasn't happening, it was so surreal, she was still under the impression she'd awken. Ben was leaning in very close, he kissed her. Saiya kissed him back, he pulled away rather quickly. That had probably been the best ten seconds of her life... Now she was really sure she was dreaming, that she'd wake up kissing her pillow... "Well, uh... Maybe we should go out sometime." Ben said. Saiya still smiled.
"God, you realise how sappy that was, right?" Saiya responded, but had no intention of leaving him. On the contrary, she leaned toward him, then laid her head on his shoulder, sitting very close to him on the bench-style seat of her piece of junk called a car.

Ben smiled at ehr and placed his arm around her shoulder, laying his head on her shoulder. "Well, get used to those. I'm not the best talker in the world." ((Sorry for the short post!!
